Registry of Interpreters: Deaf Advisory Council

VIDEO: Registry of Interpreters: Deaf Advisory Council. (American Sign Language)

Ray Kenney, CDI a Member of the RID Deaf Advisory Council (DAC) Responding to Amy Williamson an Interpreters with Deaf Parents (IDP) a member and officer of IDP MS VLOG We the DAC understood that Lewis Merkin and Naomi Sheneman had been nominated for offices on the Board of Directors.

Lewis for President and Naomi for Deaf Member at Large. DAC has heard and support both Lewis and Naomi's mission and AIMs as recently as last week. Both are Deaf as well as Interpreter with Deaf Parents. So DAC recognized that they could play important roles and promote Deaf Heart within the Organization.

One of the purposes of DAC is to serve as a watchdog and guide to the organization to ensure that Deaf Heart is an integral part of the RID as a whole. Given their withdrawal as candidates, it would seem logical to hear from RID Board that we no longer have these 2 great individuals running for office. At this time, we have not heard anything from RID Board. We did not hear about this recent development until IDP's vlog.

Something must have happened that triggered these 2 great leaders to withdraw. DAC supports IDP's request for transparency and need the same for the Deaf community. We are in this together.
